Built on the Mountain

“But that same night the word of the Lord came to Nathan: Go and tell David my servant, ‘Thus says the Lord: Is it you who would build me a house to dwell in? When your days have completed and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring after you, sprung from your loins, and I will establish his kingdom. He it is who shall build a house for my name, and I will establish his royal throne forever. I will be a father to him, and he shall be a son to me. Your house and your kingdom are firm forever before me, your throne shall be firmly established forever.’ ”

The great king of Israel, David the poet, purchased the site of a threshing floor, the very place the Scriptures describe as Mount Moriah, and the location of Abraham’s would-be sacrifice of his son Isaac. It was there God desired his temple built. David secured the property, but God chose David’s son Solomon to build it. Only a loving Heavenly Father with such a purposeful vision for his people could provide for the nation with such forethought and provide for us all eternally in the process.
