Planned Giving

Consider a Gift of Real Estate

If you’ve lost interest in home maintenance, grown tired of paying property taxes on a vacation home you no longer use, or need only a portion of the living space you currently own, you may be ready to make a move. But before you summon the energy to put your home on the market, think about a charitable gift.

If you would like to help fulfill our mission, your property can open the door to a unique giving opportunity: Donate the property to the Diocese of Baton Rouge, either now or whenever you no longer need it. You can give the property to us now, retain the use of it for life, give us partial use, place it in trust, or offer it as a bequest in your will.

Like the Saints of Old

Mature couples who’ve made it through life, having fostered a strong commitment to their faith, are a source of true strength and wisdom. I’m a sap for their stories and pray to grow into someone just like them. Time after time, we hear about their earliest years together. They say, “We didn’t have very much, but we were so happy.” Or, “those first few years were a challenge, but we were surrounded by good friends, were part of a great church, and were the happiest we’ve ever been.” It’s in times like those we learn to depend on God’s mercy and grace. Those who’ve gone before, just like the saints of the Church, help show us the way.

“Behold, now is a very acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation. We cause no one to stumble in anything, in order that no fault may be found with our ministry; on the contrary, in everything we commend ourselves as ministers of God, through much endurance, in afflictions, hardships, constraints, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labors, vigils, fasts; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, in a holy spirit, in unfeigned love, in truthful speech, in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness at the right and at the left; through glory and dishonor, insult and praise. We are treated as deceivers and yet are truthful; as unrecognized and yet acknowledged; as dying and behold we live; as chastised and yet not put to death; as sorrowful yet always rejoicing; as poor yet enriching many; as having nothing and yet possessing all things.”

This devotional article is taken from the Total Stewardship curriculum of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, one of dozens of devotional pieces that support resources designed for the Stewardship of Prayer, the Stewardship of Ministry, and the Stewardship of Finance. The material purposefully aligns with the annual Catholic liturgy, the Third Edition of the Roman Missal and the Revised Edition of the New American Bible. We invite you to contact us for more information concerning ways the Total Stewardship curriculum might be used to serve your parish and your parishioners.

Stewardship Today is a monthly devotional newsletter designed to assist Catholics everywhere in developing a greater understanding of the role of stewardship in everyday life.
All we are, and all we possess, are gifts from God for our use and for the blessing of others. Through wise stewardship, we invest our time, our talents and our treasures to the glory of God.
