Planned Giving

A Personal Approach to Giving

Including a gift in your will is a thoughtful way to support the causes and organizations that are close to your heart—respected institutions like the Diocese of Baton Rouge, for example. It’s an easy way to support our mission in the future without using any of your assets today. Consider two special features that make this a popular type of gift: flexibility and versatility.

Childlike Faith

Little Amy likes to climb. Barely two, she’s very agile, and her parents are forever finding her giggling at their eye level—from the back of the sofa, atop the desk, or standing on a chair. Each time, they scold her and admonish her never to do it again. But Amy is a fairly typical toddler. She’s yet to fall, so she has no sense of the potential for pain and injury that concerns her parents. They’ll hear her, and turn just in time to reach out as Amy flies from a piece of furniture into their arms, laughing as she goes. She understands little of the hazard she embraces, but she understands a great deal about those who embrace her.

Trusting toddlers like Amy teach us an important truth about faith. Their way is precisely the ideal way to approach God—not as learned and self-assured adults, but like children. “Jesus said to them, ‘Let the children come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.’ Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.” The next time difficulty overwhelms you, be willing to fall into the embrace of an understanding and loving Savior. He will catch you.

Stewardship Today is a monthly devotional newsletter designed to assist Catholics everywhere in developing a greater understanding of the role of stewardship in everyday life.
All we are, and all we possess, are gifts from God for our use and for the blessing of others. Through wise stewardship, we invest our time, our talents and our treasures to the glory of God.
