Knowing Who You Are

Nike offers a swoosh, Steve Jobs served an apple, Izod an alligator, the postal service its eagle, and Prudential the rock. In an image-saturated culture, brand and corporate identity are crucial. In the business world, who you are is important, but accurately translating your identity into relationships with customers and clients is everything.  A workable logo may be key, and colors are important. Slogans and tag lines leave an impression. But ultimately the bridge between the actual and the desired is the one business owners want to cross. Is the public’s perception of us, who we really are?

The buying public is prepared to provide answers but might not volunteer them. With market research, an entrepreneur gains insight and assesses perceptions. Those answers can be costly and elusive. Our Heavenly Father knew how important personal identity would be for us. Throughout the Scriptures, we are afforded his perspective, who he is and who we are, as well. “Know that the Lord is God, our maker to whom we belong, whose people we are, God’s well-tended flock.” His sheep, his followers, his family, his Church, his body, his bride. We belong to him. He defines who we are.

Stewardship Today is a monthly devotional newsletter designed to assist Catholics everywhere in developing a greater understanding of the role of stewardship in everyday life.
All we are, and all we possess, are gifts from God for our use and for the blessing of others. Through wise stewardship, we invest our time, our talents and our treasures to the glory of God.
